Summit Hill council

Summit Hill Council Tuesday night conducted the following business:

• Sara Ruch, chairman of the Hootenanny Committee, was approved to hold the annual event on June 26 in Ludlow Park. Ruch was also granted permission to utilize the Hilltop Community Center for the event.

The Hootenanny wasn’t held last year because of the pandemic.

• The Cressona Band was approved to stage a concert in Ludlow Park on June 29 from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

• A reminder was issued by Secretary-Treasurer Kira Steber that trash collection was changed to a Monday. The hauler starts collecting trash early in the morning so residents should place their garbage at curbside on Sunday evening.

Council member David Wargo also reminded residents that trash cannot be placed at the curb more than 24 hours before collection. He said the borough will begin enforcing the ordinance in an effort to prevent the infestation of rodents and other animals that the trash might attract if placed outside too early.

• The draft of a new zoning ordinance was submitted to council, which agreed to forward it to the Carbon County Planning Commission for review. In addition, a new subdivision and land development ordinance will be reviewed by Entech Engineering of Mountain Top. The latter ordinance was devised jointly with Jim Thorpe borough.

The council said public hearings will be required before either ordinance can be approved.

Kira Steber, David Wargo, William O’Gurek, Darryl Cunfer and Wayne Gryzik are serving on the ordinance committee.

• Council member Karen Ruzicka said she was informed a condemned dwelling on East Ludlow Street still has occupancy. The matter will be referred to the Lehigh Engineering, the borough’s property maintenance code enforcer.

• Cheryl Schoch and Sherry Grant were appointed to two-year terms on the Recreation Commission. The council said there are still vacancies on the commission.
