L. Towamensing looks for new supervisor
Lower Towamensing Township is accepting letters of interest for the empty supervisor’s seat.
Brent Green, the chairman of the supervisors, said that if a resident of Lower Towamensing Township is interested in serving the community and working for its benefit, then they are welcome to send in a letter of interest with a resume or list of qualifications. He has received three so far.
The letters can be emailed to him at lowertow@ptd.net, or mailed or dropped off at the township office. Green said there is a drop off box at the office. The mailing address is 595 Hahns Dairy Road, Palmerton, PA 18071.
In order to qualify to be a supervisor, a person:
• must be a resident of the township continuously for one year or more;
• cannot be serving as a current elected official for another organization, and;
• cannot be prevented from serving due to a legal reason.
Green said that he and Supervisor Connie Brown will officially accept the resignation of Terry Kuehner at their regularly scheduled meeting on March 1. Kuehner was elected to be supervisor, but cannot serve due to three prior felony convictions.
Carbon County District Attorney Michael Greek had submitted an injunction petition on Jan. 4 to the court. The injunction was to prevent Kuehner from participating in township meetings as a supervisor, until the court could make a ruling on his eligibility.
The judge didn’t have to make a ruling, because Kuehner resigned. He submitted his letter of resignation to Greek after a hearing on Jan. 21. Greek then mailed the letter to the township.
The supervisors would have accepted Kuehner’s resignation at their meeting on Feb. 1, but they did not receive the letter in time for the meeting.
