Local Roundup: Results from Feb. 7

Palmerton’s boys and girls both picked up victories in basketball action on Monday. In the boys game, Chase Reph hit a buzzer-beater in the second overtime to lift the Blue Bombers over Bangor.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Bangor-Palmerton

Heroics from Chase Reph allowed Palmerton to pull out a thrilling 74-72 Colonial League double overtime victory over Bangor.

With the score tied late in the second overtime, Reph pulled down an offensive rebound and put up a shot from the side that found the mark as the buzzer sounded.

Reph’s dramatic game-winner allowed the Blue Bombers to finish the regular season with a 16-6 overall record and a 13-5 mark in the league.

Brayden Hosier tallied a game-high 22 points for Palmerton, who will now play Thursday in the league playoffs. Matt Machalik added 21 points, with 11 of them coming after regulation. Reph tossed in 12 points, five of them coming in the OT periods.

The Slaters, who fell to 10-10 and 10-7, received a team-high 20 points from Ashton Kluska.

Weatherly-Williams Valley

Williams Valley pulled away from Weatherly in the second half to gain a 71-51 Schuylkill League victory.

Brady Evans scored 15 of his 23 points during the final two quarters to help the Vikings extend a seven-point halftime lead.

Alex Achenbach registered a game-high 24 points for the winners, who improved to 2-18 overall.

The Wreckers received 11 points from both Frankie Willis and Ian McLaurin, while Timmy Maguschak chipped in with nine.

The loss dropped Weatherly to 1-15 and 0-9 in the league.

Pleasant Valley-PM West

Christian Fermin scored a game-high 24 points to power Pocono Mountain West to a 78-44 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory over Pleasant Valley.

Fermin, who will be attending VCU, and De’von Smith both scored 10 points in the second quarter to help the Panthers open up a 20-point halftime lead.

For the Bears, Ryan Blass posted a team-high 11 points while Donald Francois and Sean Hallenbeck both chipped in with seven.

The loss dropped PV to 3-16.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Palmerton-Northern Lehigh

Palmerton rebounded from its first loss of the season by cruising to a 44-19 Colonial League victory over rival Northern Lehigh.

Brianna Moore scored all 11 of her points in the first half, while Raegan Nemeth hit for all 10 of her points in the opening two quarters as the Blue Bombers raced to a 36-4 halftime lead.

The winners, who improved to 19-1 overall and 17-0 in the league, also received 10 points from Bethie Morgan.

Emma Niebell finished with a team-high 11 points for Northen Lehigh, who dropped to 12-9 and 10-8.

Marian-Weatherly

Four Marian players reached double-digit scoring as the Fillies coasted to a 59-16 Schuylkill League victory over Weatherly.

Carly Minchhoff led the way for the winners, finishing with a game-high 18 points. Minchhoff posted nine of her points in the second quarter as Marian enjoyed a 24-point halftime lead.

Fatikha Tikhtova added 14 points to Marian’s cause, while Ashley Pleban added 11 and Frankie Martinelli chipped in with 10.

The win was the Fillies’ ninth straight in league play, lifting their overall mark to 16-4 and their league mark to 10-1.

The Wreckers, who received six points from both Emma Kane and Bethany Houser, fell to 5-14 and 1-10.

Jim Thorpe-Pottsville

Jim Thorpe clinched at least a tie for the Schuylkill League Division 1 title with a 53-20 victory over Pottsville.

The Olympians, who raced to a 34-11 halftime lead, are now 13-0 in the league and will host North Schuylkill (12-1) on Thursday.

Skyler Searfoss finished with a game-high 14 points for Thorpe, who improved to 20-1 overall. Olivia Smelas and Leila Hurley each added 12 points, while Leah Snisky chipped in with 10.

The Tide received five points from both Jules Plachko and Julia Kowalski.

North Schuylkill built a huge lead and coasted to a 71-27 Schuylkill League victory over Lehighton.

Katelyn Himes scored nine of her game-high 15 points in the opening period to help the Spartans jump out to a 25-7 advantage.

The Spartans, who extended the margin to 40 points by halftime, also received 12 points from both Kamrin Mengel and Maddy Wetzel.

Charli McHugh and Hailey Miller each had eight points to pace the Indians, who dropped to 9-11 overall and 4-9 in the league. Lehighton needs to win its final two games (against Panther Valley and Pocono Mountain East) to qualify for the district playoffs.

Mikaili Donmoyer scored a game-high 19 points to lead Pine Grove to a 58-30 Schuylkill League victory over Panther Valley.

Donmoyer hit for nine of her points in the second quarter as the Cardinals enjoyed a 23-point halftime advantage.

The Panthers received a team-high 11 points from Maddison Maynard, while Sera Robin contributed 10.

PV dropped to 2-18 overall and 0-13 in the league, while Pine Grove improved to 12-9 and 6-7.

Abby Beam scored a game-high 16 points to lead the Eagles, who used an 18-7 third quarter to seal the win.

The Blue Raiders received a team-high 12 points from Serena Jones, while Ashley Jones chipped in with six.

Tamaqua fell to 7-13 overall and 2-11 in the league, while Blue Mountain is now 15-6 and 9-4.

Vataijah Davis exploded for 36 points to power Pocono Mountain West to a 62-21 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory over Pleasant Valley.

The Panthers put the game away early, using a 19-1 second quarter to lead by 26 points at the break.

Aryn Stivala finished with a team-high nine points for the Bears, who dropped to 9-11 overall. PV needs to win its final two games (against Stroudsburg and Northern Lehigh) to clinch a district playoff berth.

With the win, West moved to 17-4.

Weatherly and Panther Valley battled to a 24-24 tie.

DeAnna Pugh had a game-high 19 points for the Wreckers, while PV received 12 points from Caroline Breslin and eight from Morgan Orsulak.

Lehighton-Tamaqua

Lehighton gained a 32-18 victory over Tamaqua.

Uyvari scored a game-high 16 points for the Indians, while Trotman added seven.

The Blue Raiders were led by Cecilia Ulicny’s 10 points.

7TH GRADE

Weatherly-Panther Valley

DeAnna Pugh scored 20 points to lead Weatherly to a 32-20 victory over Panther Valley.

The Wreckers also received seven points from Brua Gordick.

Lucy Kocha had eight points to pace the Panthers.
