Weatherly Council adds fee to upgrade meters

Weatherly council voted to enact a $2 per meter fee ($2 for the water meter, $2 for the electric) ahead of converting all the water and electric meters to electronic read. That would mean the meters would transmit the monthly numbers directly to the borough. This would end the current system of sending borough employees to walk up to each of the meters to get that month’s numbers. Borough employees would install the new meters. Borough manager Harold Pudliner is seeking bids for the new meters.

In other business at the January monthly meeting, Weatherly borough will apply for a grant to build another basketball court and two pickleball courts at Eurana Park.

Weatherly police Chief Brian Markovchick was appointed Emergency Management director, filling the vacancy from James Wetzel’s passing.

Council also agreed to hire a forester and logger to thin the forested properties owned by the borough.

All votes were unanimous.

Mayor P.J. Hadzick wrapped up the meeting by thanking council members for the work they put in to be informed. It means council can make better decisions together, rather than having multiple committees.

Hadzick offered a special welcome to new member Vince Cuddeford II.

Council voted to join the Carbon County Hazard Mitigation Plan.

Council received a letter from Citizens’ Fire Company thanking the borough and council for their help in buying the new rescue-pumper truck.

Electronics recycling dates for the Weatherly area for 2022 were approved on July 9 and Sept. 8 at Eurana Park, with costs shared with Lehigh, Lausanne and Packer townships.
