A Monroe County man was killed and another was injured in a two-vehicle crash on Tuesday evening..

State police at Lehighton said the crash occurred at 5:02 p.m. along Burger Hollow Road in Polk Township.

Troopers said Benjamin L. Deutsch, 31, of Effort, was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado truck northbound at a high rate of speed when he failed to negotiate a right curve in the road. Due to the high rate of speed, Deutsch’s truck crossed the double yellow line and entered the southbound lane when it collided into a 1998 International Harvester truck driven by Brent Simpson, 43, of Effort.

Deutsch was pronounced dead at the scene.

Simpson was flown by medical helicopter to St. Luke’s Hospital, Bethlehem.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene.

Assisting at the scene were volunteers from the Polk Township Fire Company, West End Fire Company and ambulance corps.
