Little snow, but wind chill warning issued
Not much is expected by way of snowfall, but the wind chill will assuredly make for downright bitterly cold conditions.
A cold front Friday was anticipated to bring about an inch of snow, perhaps more at some spots, according to Paul Walker, senior meteorologist with AccuWeather.
Walker said the storm is going to be developing off the Virginia/Maryland Coast later today and then move northeast, as we’ll be in the far western fringes of the storm.
Altogether, the storm that is expected to bring blizzard conditions to New England will bring 1-3 inches of snow here through Saturday.
“This storm is going to be wrapping up,” Walker said. “It’s going to get pretty windy, with an average of 15-20 mph, (with) some gusts as high as 40 mph.”
Walker said temperatures are expected to fall down into the lower teens tonight, likely down to 13, with highs only in the midteens on Saturday, for real feel temperatures of minus 5 to minus 10 degrees.
“Through the day tomorrow, and as we get into tomorrow night, temperatures could fall into single digits, 8-9, with real feel minus 10 to minus 15,” he said. “It will be gradually subsiding.”
Due to the dangerously cold conditions, Walker said it’s imperative to take the proper steps.
“Cover any exposed skin, try to limit the amount of time outdoors,” he said. “Remember pets that are outdoors, bring them in, give them protection.”
However, there is some good news, as behind this storm appears to be a little bit of a warmup, Walker said.
By Monday, he said temperatures could be back up by the freezing mark for a high, and by Tuesday, up into the mid-30s.
Walker said there’s even the possibility that we could see the mid-40s by the middle of next week, but added there’s another storm that could bring us some rain by the midpoint of next week.
