Fire damages Mahoning residence

Editor's note: The original version of this article reported a fire "at the Villa at the Mahoning Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center" and that the "residents were evacuated." This article has been updated to clarify that that the fire was at a villa residence located on the property of the nursing home, not at the nursing home itself, and that the villa's residents, not the nursing home's residents, were evacuated.

Fire tore through a home located on the property of the Mahoning Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Mahoning Township early Thursday evening.

Fire companies were called to the scene of a fully involved working fire at the home known as a villa residence just before 5 p.m.

The villa is not linked to the nursing home. It is a separate residence, located behind the nursing home.

Mahoning Fire Chief Mark Ebbert said there are no injuries.

The couple who live in the villa made it out safely with their dog, according to Ebbert.

Assisting Mahoning Township at the scene, were firefighters from Lehighton, Franklin, Jim Thorpe and other departments.

A fill site for tankers was set up at Fredericks Grove Road and Route 443.

The fire was declared under control shortly after 10 p.m.
