State police release details on recent Schuylkill crashes

State police at Frackville reported investigating the following crashes in Schuylkill County:

• A one-vehicle crash was reported at 7:22 a.m. on Saturday along Route 54 in Rush Township. Troopers said Walter A. Johnson, 63, of Tamaqua, was driving a 1998 Western Star truck westbound when the vehicle drifted toward the north berm for about 190 feet and then struck a tree.

The truck continued along the berm traveling in a eastward direction for about 50 feet and struck several other trees. The truck came to final rest along the berm facing northeast.

Johnson was not injured. The truck was towed. Troopers were assisted at the scene by Hometown Fire Company volunteers.

Johnson was cited for the crash.

• A crash was reported at 5:13 a.m. on Jan. 18 along Interstate 81 northbound in Kline Township. Troopers said Kevin G. McGuire, 30, of Larksville, Luzerne County, was driving a 2016 Toyota Corolla when he lost control on the snow-covered roadway. The vehicle went onto the berm and struck an embankment, causing minor front-end damage.

McGuire was not injured.

• A crash was reported at 2:31 a.m. on Jan. 23 along Route 54 (Barnesville Road), in Ryan Township. Troopers said Carol A. Kissling, 34, of New Philadelphia, was driving a 2005 Chrysler Town & Country van eastbound when she lost control. The vehicle went off the left side of the road and continued about 100 yards into the woods where it struck a tree.

Kissling left the scene prior to the arrival of troopers. The next day she admitted crashing her vehicle and failing to contact police.

• A crash was reported at 2:42 a.m. on Jan. 22 along Route 209 (Market Street), in Blythe Township.

Troopers said Tyler A. Stettler, 27, of Walnutport, was driving a 2000 Subaru Forester southbound in the village of Cumbola, when the vehicle went onto the berm and crashed into three vehicles that were legally parked.

Stettler was observed fleeing the scene southbound. He reported the crash the next day to police.

He was cited, troopers said.
