Weatherly council shown new Citizens’ firetruck

Citizens’ Fire Co. No. 1 brought their new KME rescue pumper to Weatherly Borough council’s reorganization meeting last week. The truck, among the last to come off the KME line in Nesquehoning, arrived just before Christmas. It cost $750,000.

The new truck replaces two of Citizens’ older vehicles, a 1994 KME rescue and a 1989 pumper, which were both sold to area fire companies. Proceeds from those sales went toward buying the new vehicle.

“It’s the state of the art,” shared fire company foreman Paul Bray as he showed council members and press the vehicle. It carries 750 gallons of water, and a full set of fire response and rescue tools including Jaws of Life. He said the unit has been out doing quick medical responses in support of the ambulance company.

Citizens’ Fire Co. No. 1 has a fund drive underway to raise this year’s payment for the new truck. Checks can be sent to Citizens’ Fire Co. No. 1, 197 Spring Street, Weatherly, PA 18255.
