Carbon County Court heard several hours of testimony yesterday on an action by St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Jim Thorpe, protesting the proposed move of the PA Liquor Store in that community to Susquehanna Street.

President Judge John P. Lavelle presided over the proceedings, during which time the congregation members opposed the relocation of the liquor store from 331 Center St., Jim Thorpe, to 34 Susquehanna St.

The congregation members cite the close proximity of the proposed location to its church. Among those testifying was the Rev. Joseph K. Hammond Jr., rector, who said the dignity of the church would suffer if the liquor store was located near the church.
