Legion meeting

Post 927, American Legion, Gilbert, will hold its January meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the Post’s Main Hall.

Pizza sale ends

McMichaels UMC is holding a pizza sale. All orders must be received by Thursday. Call Martha Stout at 570-992-6742 to place an order. Pickup is Jan. 15 at the church by noon. People are asked to wear a mask when entering the church.

No later meeting

The Eldred Township Board of Supervisors met for its annual organizational meeting this past Monday, with the regular meeting following thereafter.

The normal schedule of meeting, the third Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m., will resume on Feb. 16.

The Planning Commission will meet for its annual organizational meeting Jan. 12 at 7 p.m., with the regular meeting slated to follow.

Other committee meeting times and dates will be posted on the bulletin board outside the office, or feel free to call the secretary at 610-381-4252, ext. 2.

Polk Supervisors

The Polk Township Board of Supervisors held its reorganization meeting on Monday as required.

The next general meeting will be held at 8 a.m. Jan. 13.

Thrift store open

The Eldred Township Thrift Store has resumed normal hours today which are from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday through Friday.

Thanks shared

The Garden of Giving extended its thanks to the Robert Coleman Insurance Company, which gave a grant of $500 to The Garden in the name of the agency and Donegal Insurance Group.

First Friday

Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church, Brodheadsville, is looking forward to worshipping with other churches in Monroe County at its home site at 7 p.m. Friday. The community is invited.

Breakfast served

McMichaels UMC is serving a donation-only breakfast from 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday. A complete breakfast will be served. Everyone is welcome. February’s breakfast will be on Feb. 12

WE Pantry open

The West End Pantry will continue its distributions this Saturday, from 9 a.m. to noon, and then on Jan. 22.

SFRC food pantry

The Supplemental Food Resource Center at Effort UMC will be open from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday. Those who care to donate to the pantry are asked to consider canned vegetables including corn, green beans, peas, carrots, etc.

Thanks and welcome

St. Matthew’s UCC in Kunkletown recognizes those who have served on church council: Darryl Breinich, Norm Burger, Harry Koehler, Stephen Christiansen and Randy Cramer, and welcomes those joining the church council: Magen Snyder, Devoe Breinich and Brenda Sheckler.

The church advises that in case of inclement weather, call the church office for any cancellations of meetings and services. A message will be on the answering machine if there are cancellations. If there is no answering machine picking up, there is no electricity and there will be no service.

Worship services

Salem-St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Kresgeville, will have worship on Sunday at 8:30 and 10:30 a.m., and Sunday school for all ages will be held at 9 a.m.

Community Supper

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church is offering a community supper from 3 to 4 p.m. Sunday.

ALPHA begins

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church will begin its ALPHA series from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday. It is a place for connecting with other people who are open to exploring life, faith and meaning, according to the church announcement.

Registration is open to anyone. One does not have to be a parishioner or practice faith. The event begins with dinner at 6:30 p.m.

Menu choices

Seniors attending the Chestnuthill Senior Center in Brodheadsville are reminded that the luncheon order for either Wednesday or Friday must be placed with site Manager Donna Riedel at 570-242-6770 by 11 a.m. two days ahead of time.

The choices for next week are: chicken cacciatore next Wednesday, and stuffed shells for Jan. 14.

There is a suggested donation per meal.

Library program

The Western Pocono Community Library will host a rock painting time on Jan. 12, beginning at 1:30 p.m. All supplies are provided.

Hello, New Year

The West End Park and Open Space Commission invites the community to Blast Off into the New Year by dropping in at the Chestnuthill Park in Brodheadsville, joining others who are creating a wood rocket or space craft between 5-7 p.m. Jan. 14, and testing how high that Stomp Rocket can go.

In addition, WEPOSC is offering exercise classes. For costs and times contact the West End Park and Open Space Commission at 570-992-9733 or at www.weposc.org. Class options are: Tuesdays, Fit dance from 6 to 7 p.m. and PIYO (Pilates/Yoga) from 7:15 to 8:15 p.m. Thursdays, PIYO (Pilates/Yoga) from 6 to 7 p.m.

Classes are at the Chestnuthill Park, 221 Route 715, Brodheadsville.

Chili cook-off

It is a Chili Cook-off on Jan. 29, beginning at 1 p.m., at the West End Fire Co. in Brodheadsville as chili cookers, entering their chili for judging, pay a fee to do so.

There is a fee to enter, as well as taste. Children younger than 12 are free.

Chili cookers should bring their chili in a slow cooker and it should be almost fully cooked before they arrive.

Proceeds benefit Austin’s Blue Line, a nonprofit raising funds for suicide awareness and providing PV students scholarships. The website is austinsblueline.org.

Help available

McMichaels UMC hosts both Serenity Narcotics Anonymous and Alcoholics Anonymous. The former meets every Monday at 6:30 p.m. at the church. The meeting is open to all who need to talk and fellowship with those who understand what you are experiencing. The meeting is free and confidential.

AA will meet every Wednesday at noon and every Saturday at 6:30 p.m. The meetings are free and confidential.

Scholarship

The Monroe County Conservation District and members of the Stanley Becker family have announced that applications are now being accepted for the 15th annual Stanley Becker Memorial Scholarship.

This $500 scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior in Monroe County who is planning on attending college and majoring in an environmental field.

To apply, students may print an application or apply online at www.mcconservation.org. Deadline for applications is April 1.
