Early morning fire displaces 1 in Bowmanstown

One person was displaced from their home after an early morning fire broke out in Bowmanstown.

Bowmanstown Fire Department Assistant Chief Michael Spairana III said firefighters responded at around 5 a.m. to a fire at 601 Fireline Road.

Spairana said the fully involved fire was called in by a passer-by. He said there were no injuries, as the individual who lives there was away when the fire broke out.

Upon arrival, Spairana said firefighters established water supply, put hose lines into operation to try to put the fire out, and also used Palmerton Fire Department’s ladder truck master stream.

He said the fire was knocked down in about an hour, though firefighters remained on scene this morning hitting hot spots.

“We’re having a hard time getting in at this point,” said Spairana, who added the home is a total loss. “Part of the house is unsafe to bring anybody in.”

Spairana said the cause of the fire is undetermined. However, he said a fire marshal was called and was on scene this morning.

Also assisting were the Palmerton Fire Department, Aquashicola Fire Department, Parryville Fire Department, East Penn Township Fire Department, Walnutport Fire Department with their RIT team, and Palmerton Ambulance, while Spairana said the Bowmanstown Borough crew spread salt for firefighters due to the below-freezing temperatures early this morning.

“It was in the low 20s when we got here, everything icing up right away,” he said. “All in all, everybody that was here worked well together, did what we had to do.”
