Palmerton native will take part in Combat Jiu-Jitsu Tournament

Talk about being in select company.

In a foreign country, no less, where only the top 16 fighters in his weight class have been invited to compete.

Yet, that’s exactly where Dillon “D-Boy” Masington of Palmerton will find himself when he competes at the 16-man submission only Combat Jiu-Jitsu Featherweights World Championships.

The event takes place on Dec. 19 at the Plaza De Toros Cancun in Cancun, Q.R. Mexico. It will be televised on UFC Fight Pass at 6 p.m. Eastern Time.

The fighters will be competing for the EBI 145-pound world championship belt, and only the 16 best fighters from around the world - including “D-Boy” - have been invited to compete.

Relatively new, Combat Jiu-Jitsu is a discipline that mixes wrestling and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu with open, barehanded striking.

“D-Boy” began his career in 2000, and has since amassed a record of 276 wins, 180 losses, and three draws while competing in wrestling, Jiu-Jitsu submission grappling, and Combat Jiu-Jitsu.

“The biggest thing is, I never was the best, but I never was the worst,” said “D-Boy,” 27. “It helps with my anxiety and OCD.”

“D-Boy” is the owner of Rat Pack Fighting Systems in Palmerton, where he is also head grappling instructor.

In addition, he is a wrestling coach for Palmerton junior high.

But, “D-Boy” isn’t just all brawn.

He also works as a paralegal with his parents, Nick Masington, managing partner of ARM Lawyers in Palmerton, and Sandi Masington, office manager and accounts manager.

Nick said he’s proud of his son’s latest achievement, and added their goals have already been met by “D-Boy” being invited to compete.

“He’s taken his rightful place at the top of the food chain,” Nick said. “He’s watched a lot of fighters over the years; now it’s his time to shine in the spotlight.”
