Pregnant woman hurt in crash

A pregnant Carbon County woman was injured in a two-vehicle crash in Northampton County. State police at Bethlehem said the crash occurred along Airport Road, near Stone Post Road, in East Penn Township, at 12:34 p.m. on Nov. 12.

Troopers said Vanessa M. Fethiere, 31, of Lehighton, was driving a 2000 Chrysler Cirrus southbound on Airport Road when her water broke causing her to lose control of her vehicle. The Chrysler crossed the double yellow line and entered the northbound lane where Ernest J. Howells, 59, of Northampton, was operating a 2018 Dodge Ram truck. Howells saw the Chrysler cross into his lane of travel and attempted to stop but was unable and a collision occurred. The impact caused the Chrysler to rotate about 90 degrees eastbound, out of control, and into a field along the east berm where it came to final rest.

A witness stopped in the westbound lane of Stone Post Road at the time.

Fethiere was trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated by emergency responders from East Allen Fire Company. She was then taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital - Muhlenberg. Howells refused medical treatment. Both vehicles were towed.

Troopers cited Fethiere for the crash.
