Tamaqua woman sentenced for selling methamphetamine

A Tamaqua woman was sentenced recently to 21 months to four years in a state prison for selling methamphetamine in the borough in January.

Tonya Marie Braun, 30, pleaded guilty to manufacture, delivery or possession with intent to deliver. Another charge of the aforementioned was dismissed including a charge of possession of a controlled substance.

Common Pleas Judge Cyrus Palmer Dolbin imposed the sentence that will run consecutive with one she is currently serving while at SCI Cambridge Springs. Braun is also required to submit a DNA sample and pay required costs.

Tamaqua police say she sold methamphetamine to a confidential informant behind the Tamaqua Rescue Squad building on East Rowe Street Jan. 6.

Police videotaped the transaction. She wanted the money first and then would bring drugs. The informant said no.

Braun returned with the drugs and gave it to the informant for $160 who then gave police the drugs, which were then packaged, sealed and stored into evidence to be given to the State Police Crime lab for analysis.
