Pa. game commission raids Saylorsburg site

A butcher shop in Saylorsburg was raided Friday afternoon in relation to the illegal sale of wildlife.

The incident occurred at around 1 p.m. at Hughart’s Meat Market, 1324 Wilkes-Barre Turnpike, said Mark Kropa, law enforcement supervisor for the Northeast region of Pennsylvania Game Commission.

“Officer-wise, I think we had 10 game commission officers, one Monroe County detective from the DA’s office and an inspector from the USDA,” Kropa said. “A search warrant was executed at the butcher shop in reference to the illegal sale of wildlife.”

Kropa said no other details could be shared at this time.

“It’s an ongoing investigation going on for about a year now,” he said. “There’s some more stuff to be investigated.”

Another Monroe County meat market is also under investigation for the illegal sale of wildlife.

Kropa said search warrants were also executed at Haydt’s Meat Market, 131 Beltzville Dr., Kunkletown Friday afternoon.

He said no other details could be shared at this time as it remains an ongoing investigation.
