Lehighton man gets probation for mischief

A Lehighton man was placed on probation for 18 months on Monday on a charge of criminal mischief.

Thomas Paul Rehl Jr., 54, previously pleaded to the count but his sentencing was deferred at the time due to a question concerning restitution due the victim.

He was arrested on Oct. 20, 2020, by Lehighton police for an incident that happened at the Sunoco station along Route 443 where Rehl got into an altercation with another man and kicked the victim’s car door, causing damages.

Judge Steven R. Serfass also ordered Rehl to make restitution of $2,089.22 to the victim, pay court costs of over $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation.

Rehl is currently an inmate in the county prison facing eight criminal counts including burglary, simple assault, driving under the influence and other related counts. In that case he is scheduled to enter a guilty plea on Dec. 3 at 10 a.m.
