Schuylkill County reports getting more than 15,000 write-in votes

Schuylkill County Elections Director Albert Gricoski said more than 15,000 write-in votes were counted for the Nov. 2 general election.

A total of 32,067 people voted. A tally of Republican and Democratic votes were not available because the poll books were not yet scanned, Gricoski said, something he expects will happen in about a week.

The Schuylkill County Commissioners will likely certify most of all votes taken this week. The results will then be sent to the Pennsylvania Department of State.

Winners of the tied races will be announced Friday. Gricoski said some write-in names received more votes than candidates on the ballot.

Statewide, the results of two seats for the Commonwealth Court, those of Democrat Lori A. Dumas and Republican Drew Crompton have totals that necessitate a mandatory recount, per state law. The recount will start Nov. 17 and must be done by noon Nov. 23. Results must be submitted to the Department of State by noon Nov. 24 Locally, the recount will start at 9 a.m.

“It’s definitely going to take two days maybe more,” Gricoski said.
