Four area organizations were named recipients of Pocono Northeast Community Awards presented by the Economic Development Council of Northeastern Pennsylvania at the 20th Annual Recognition Dinner held at the Best Western East Mountain Inn, Wilkes-Barre.

They included the Palmerton Hospital, for having constructed a Community Services Center, the Eastern Schuylkill Recreation Commission, for its establishment of a passive recreation area near an abandoned mine tunnel, the Tamaqua Area 2004 Partnership and the Schuylkill County VISION program.

The honorees were cited for their roles in improving the environment, social fabric and economic base of the region.
