Engle, Carlucci jump into a tie at the top

Good Luck is out. Carolina and the Voice are in.

TJ Engle and Justin Carlucci have jumped onto the king’s throne to lead the picker pack after booting out Chuck “Bad Luck” Hixson, who suffered five losses in Week 4.

Carlucci, a perennial contender in the race for the Cup, has run out of gas in recent years during the stretch run.

“You guys got me just where you want me,” he said. “Midway lead and late collapse coming!”

Two games back are Pat “The Mat” Matsinko and “Hot” Rod Heckman. Matsinko, who led early in the race, has slipped in the past two weeks while current titleholder Heckman remains in a solid position to make a move toward the lead.

“Bad” Brad Hurley has quietly been winning his share of games at a steady pace, and he too, is just two behind the front-runners.

Having his best picks’ week at 13-2, Mike “Quick Pick” Haines sits at four back. He has run past Sam “the Man” Matta. Yours Truly, with a solid 12-win week, climbed out of the Pundit Pit leaving Emmett “Bossman” McCall choking on his Pit spit, a full six games behind.

Pick six to win

A half-dozen area teams are favorites to add victories to their season’s records in Week 5. Marian travels to Shenandoah Valley in a battle of winless teams. Running back Matt Martin hopes to lead the Colts to outscore the Blue Devils. The consensus pick here is Marian, but they will need to overcome a roster that has recently been riddled with injuries.

The Bulldogs of Northern Lehigh - who stood toe to toe with unbeaten Notre Dame last week - are the unanimous favorite to defeat Palisades, while Northwestern looks to remain perfect against a solid Bangor team.

Check the victory box for Pleasant Valley and Tamaqua to add to their win totals in Week 5, but not for Jim Thorpe and Lehighton, who both go on the road to face tough opponents who have combined for a 7-1 record.

The Cup Game of the Week

Palmerton - winners of three of their first four games - travels to take on the undefeated Catasauqua Rough Riders in what should be a barn burner right down to the final snap of the ball. Bombers’ quarterback Matt Machalik is having an MVP-type season, and the consensus is he’ll lead his charges to victory and hand Catty its first loss.

Rhyme signs

Is TJ a one-week wonder, or will he keep his thunder? Can Justin kick back the dust and hold the gold?

Heckman holds steady. Hurley looks ready. Haines gains, but Pat splats and where goes lucky Chucky? Sam is no sham. If the Strack attack flops, he drops and McCall keeps fumbling the ball in his Pundit Pit fall.

Whose face will be in front of the race, and what names will win the games and be in the mix for Week 6?
