Flash flood watch in effect through tonight

A flash flood watch continues for the region through late tonight.

Showers and thunderstorms will develop ahead of and with the passage of a cold front this morning through this evening. Rain will be heavy at times. Widespread rainfall totals will range from 1.5 to 3 inches with locally higher amounts of 4 to 5 inches possible, especially in the southern Poconos.

Flash flooding of creeks, streams, urban areas, and poor drainage areas is possible in the areas of heaviest rain.

The latest forecast:

Today: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. High near 72. Southeast wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.

Tonight: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 4 a.m., then a slight chance of showers after 5 a.m. Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy, with a low around 52. South wind around 5 mph becoming west after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.

Friday: Sunny, with a high near 69. Northwest wind around 5 mph becoming southwest in the afternoon.

Friday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 49. West wind around 5 mph becoming calm.

Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 71. Calm wind becoming west around 5 mph in the afternoon.

Saturday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 51.

Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 68.

Sunday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 49.

Monday: Sunny, with a high near 69.
