State police at Bethlehem - crashes

State police at the Bethlehem barracks reported on the following crashes:

• Kim A. Merkel, 44, of Kunkletown, suffered minor injuries in a two-vehicle mishap at 6:18 a.m. Aug. 20 on Route 309 in Heidelberg Township.

Police said he was transported to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, by the Northern Valley ambulance corps.

Police said he was driving a 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 that collided with a 2017 Dodge Ram 2500 operated by Terry D. Haas, 66, of New Tripoli. He was not injured in the collision.

Police said Merkel was cited for the incident.

• Police said Michael D. Kern, 48, of Palmerton, was driving a 2009 Triumph TR6 eastbound on Mountain Road, near Spruce Lane, in Washington Township, on Sept. 6 at 6:39 p.m. when a deer entered the road in front of him.

He was unable to avoid striking the deer with his bike. Upon impact the bike slid about 250 feet and Kern was thrown from it. The police report indicated Kern was wearing a helmet and was treated at the scene by emergency personnel and not transported to a medical facility.
