• Carbon County will host a remembrance ceremony in honor of the 20th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks at 8:45 a.m. on Sept. 10 in Josiah White Park, Jim Thorpe. Everyone is welcome.

• Coaldale: The Coaldale Volunteer Fire Company will be hosting its annual Apparatus Parade on Sept. 11 to celebrate the dedication of its 1994 Seagrave Pumper and to go along with the community at the Coal Cracking Rock the Block. Lineup and judging of the parade will begin at 4 p.m. on the 100 block of West High Street and the 200 block of Sixth Street. The parade will begin promptly at 6 p.m. The 100 block of West High Street and the 200 block of Sixth Street will be closed that day for fire apparatus parking.

• Gilbert: A remembrance ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. Sept. 11 at the American Legion Post 927, 646 Fairgrounds Road, Gilbert. The event is open to the community. A light luncheon will be provided.

• Lehighton: The Lehighton United Veterans Organization will hold a special ceremony in observance of the 20-year anniversary of 9/11 at 2 p.m. Sept. 11 in the borough’s Upper Park Amphitheater.

• Nesquehoning: The officers, members and auxiliary of Nesquehoning Memorial VFW Post 8008 will host a 9/11 Memorial Benefit Weekend. On Sept. 11 at noon, the public is invited to the VFW to honor the brave sacrifice of America’s first responders. Law enforcement, fire companies, and EMS from across the region have been invited to be honored and receive a blessing. This ceremony is an opportunity to show the heroes of the homefront that we will never forget. A portion of the weekend’s proceeds will be donated to HEART 9/11: a team of first responders and the NYC Building Trades that bonded in the aftermath of 9/11 to honor the sacrifices of colleagues and family members lost, to continue to utilize their experience and training in service to others, and to bring a message of hope to communities affected by disaster. HEART 9/11’s mission is to respond immediately to natural and man-made disasters; rebuild homes, churches, and medical clinics in hard-hit areas to meet grassroots needs; recover by building resiliency for individuals, families, and communities.

• Palmerton: The Palmerton Area Girl Scouts service unit will lead a 9/11 remembrance service during this year’s Palmerton Community Festival. Scheduled for 11:30 a.m. on Sept. 11 on the main stage, the service will feature guest speaker Carbon County Common Pleas Judge Steven Serfass.

• Summit Hill: Hope of Christ Presbyterian Church in Summit Hill is the site of a 20th anniversary concert program for 9/11 at 7 p.m. Saturday. It is free and open to the community.

• Tamaqua: Stokes Ministry is holding a 9/11 memorial service at 6 p.m. Sept. 11 at the First United Methodist Church in Tamaqua (124 W. Broad St.). Multiple speakers will including state Sen. David Argall, state Rep. Jerry Knowles and county Commissioner Gary Hess. The national anthem and “Amazing Grace” sung by local singers, followed by a flag ceremony and a three-round volley. The evening will conclude with free refreshments.

• Walnutport: The Blue Mountain Quarter Midget Association in Berlinsville will be honoring first responders and military during the race on Friday in honor of 9/11. This is an annual event but because of the 20th anniversary, additional events are planned. Events will begin promptly at 5:45 p.m. at 4667 W. Mountain View Drive, Walnutport.

• Weatherly: On Sept. 11, the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 360 in Weatherly will hold a “911 Remembrance” at the Post home. At 1 p.m. there will be brief ceremony with the raising of the Freedom Flag. After that, the American Legion Auxiliary will hold an open house until 4 p.m. In cooperation with the Weatherly Area School District there will be memorabilia and a piece of the steel from Tower 1 above the impact zone for the public to view. Free hot dogs and turkey barbecue, drinks and chips will be available for all attendees.
