Coaldale Police officer Robert Melloy was given a citation at Monday evening’s borough council meeting for going above and beyond the call of duty on July 20 of this year, when he was dispatched to an apparent cardiac arrest in the borough.

Officials said when he arrived at the scene, he saw the wife administering CPR and took over for her, even though he did not have a respiratory mask with him, because he had no idea if the victim might have a communicable disease.

The citation, signed by Mayor Claire Remington, was presented by President Susan Solt in the mayor’s absence.
