Tamaqua man resists arrest, spits at cops after fight

Pedro Juan Vega-Rodriquez, 32, of East Broad St., Tamaqua, has been charged with aggravated assault, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, public drunkenness and harassment - physical contact.

On July 31 at 6:48 p.m. officers were dispatched to a disturbance no longer in progress.

The county communications center said kids were fighting and two men were arguing in the area of 622 E. Broad St. While en route another officer had arrived on scene and said the defendant, Vega-Rodriquez, was full of blood and was being aggressive toward the officer.

Two other officers arrived and an attempt was made to calm down the defendant, who was uncooperative. He had several cuts on his forearm from punching out a window. He kept attempting to enter his home and trying to push past the officers.

His wife interfered with the officers.

A Coaldale officer arrived and handcuffed the defendant’s wife until the situation could calm.

Police continued to try to speak to the defendant to find out what happened and he continued to be uncooperative. Police had to use force to take him into custody.

While seated in a chair to be evaluated, Vega-Rodriquez cursed at the officers and spit in the face of one of them. He was told he was under arrest and continued to struggle with the officers as they took him to the police cruiser.

Vega-Rodriquez was arraigned by a district judge and committed to the county prison in Pottsville after failing to post $50,000 straight cash bail.
