Three adults and four children are displaced after a fire in Orwigsburg Saturday.
A supervisor with the Schuylkill County Communications Center said the fire at 117 E. Tammany St. was called in at 8:04 p.m. When the police arrived on scene, it was upgraded to a working structure fire.
The fire was declared under control at 8:44 p.m., the supervisor said. Firefighters remain on scene dousing hotspots.
Patti Daley, disaster responder with the American Red Cross, said no one was injured.
“They are going to be displaced for awhile,” she said, adding there was fire damage to the basement and first floor.
The homeowner arrived home after shopping and noticed the fire. He notified family members who escaped along with four cats. Daley said the Red Cross is providing food, lodging and clothing. The owners have insurance.
Responding to the scene were police, and fire departments from Orwigsburg, Landville, Deer Lake, Schuylkill Haven and a rapid intervention team from Pottsville. Schuylkill EMS also were there.
