WEPOSC meets

The West End Park & Open Space Committee is meeting at 6:30 p.m. today at the Chestnuthill Park Building in Brodheadsville.

Legion Auxiliary

The American Legion Auxiliary Post 927 will hold its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. today at the Post 927 home in Gilbert.

The group will hold its summer flea market from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 21, with spaces to rent. Tables can also be rented along with the space. Call 908-220-4756 for space reservations and information.

Setup begins at 8 a.m. Lunch will be available for purchase.

Reservations and payments are required by Aug. 14.

The flea market event is open to the community.

Lock-in held

The Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church is having a PV Kids lock-in this weekend. Members need to sign up at the church’s Connect Center.

The event runs from 7 p.m. to 9:30 a.m.

Library book sale

The Western Pocono Community Library has a bag book sale for a set fee every Thursday.

PV Board meets

The Pleasant Valley School District Board of Education is slated to meet at 7 p.m. Thursday.

PVEN open

People planning on going to the PVEN food pantry Saturday for the choice distribution are reminded to call 24 hours ahead of time at 570-992-3136.

Mountain Bike Day

The West End Park and Open Space Commission has announced a Mountain Bike Day for 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the West End Regional Park, 578 Evergreen Hollow Road, Brodheadsville.

There are over 7 miles of trails ready to ride. This year some new single track trails have been added for one’s riding pleasure. Planned are refreshments, and possibly some giveaways for those attending.

Trails range from beginner to expert, with the emphasis being on the beginner and intermediate trails. All participants must wear helmets. More information is available at www.weposc.org. Check the WEPOSC Facebook page.

PVEN flea market

The Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network is having a flea market this Saturday at the Pleasant Valley Presbyterian Church, 150 Pilgrim Way, Brodheadsville, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Spaces are still available.

Over 20 vendors are slated to be there and food and drinks will be available.

Effort pantry open

The Supplemental Food Resource Center at Effort UMC will be open from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday.

Chicken barbecue dinner

Effort UMC will hold a chicken barbecue seasoned dinner from 1 to 6 p.m. - unless sold out - on Saturday.

It is a takeout, curbside pickup only event.

Backpacks blessing

This weekend Our Lady Queen of Peace Church has invited its preschool, elementary, middle and high school students to bring their backpacks to church for a special blessing for them as they begin the new school year.

This past weekend at all the Masses, college students were sent off for a new semester with a special blessing from their parish family.

Shawl makers

Effort UMC’s Prayer Shawl group will meet from 1:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Hoagie orders

McMichaels UMC is closing its hoagie orders tomorrow for pickup of hoagies at the church on Aug. 19.

Zion Lutheran, Brodheadsville, is holding its hoagie sale through Aug. 23. Orders can be dropped off at the church office, or called in to the church office at 570-992-6988.

They can be picked up on Aug. 28, from 1 to 3 p.m., or on Aug. 29, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the parish social hall.

Priest’s receptions

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church has announced its welcome reception for the congregation’s new pastor, Father Bob Simon, for after all Masses on Saturday and Sunday.

During the Masses on those days the church will celebrate The Blessings of Herbs on the Feast of the Assumption.

Worshippers can bring their herbs in a container or wrapped bouquet and place them on the altar steps to be blessed.

Breakfast invitation

Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 839 (EAA 839) invites the public to its final summer pancake breakfast this Sunday. The pilots of EAA 839 offer: piles of pancakes, stacks of sausage, overflowing cups of orange juice or coffee.

The buffet breakfast will be served rain or shine under the striped tent, beginning at 9 a.m. and continuing until 1 p.m. The event will be held at Pegasus Airpark, 222 Hickory Lane, Sciota (turn off Route 209 at Miller’s Flower Shop by Kate).

Admire beautiful and vintage private aircraft and watch for unexpected surprises while dining there.

The event includes free Young Eagle flights. Airplane rides for youth ages 8-17 will be available, weather permitting.

Monday bingo

The American Legion in Gilbert will be open to the community for the weekly Monday night bingo. It begins at 6:30 p.m. with card sales. Called games begin at 7 p.m. and end at 9 p.m.

New students invite

A breakfast will be held for PVE/PVI students who are new to the district next Tuesday at PVE from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. with Find Your Classroom to follow at 10:30 for PVE students and at PVI beginning at 11 a.m.

Chestnuthill meets

The Chestnuthill Township Board of Supervisors will next meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the township municipal building on Route 715 in Brodheadsville.

Valor PTSD meets

The Veterans UnStoppable Peer to Peer Support Group is meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Main Hall of Post 927 in Gilbert. The meeting is open to non-Post members. For more information, call Grimm at 516-317-0588.

WE Republicans

The next regularly scheduled meeting of the West End Republican Club is set for Aug. 17, one week earlier than usual due to the West End Fair.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m., but those wanting to eat at the diner should be there at 6 p.m.

The club will be among the many entities at the West End Fair, which runs from Aug. 22-28.

Senior meals

The Chestnuthill Seniors, meeting at Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville, will be able to enjoy chicken piccata for lunch if that has been ordered by 11 a.m., two days ahead of time, by calling 570-242-6770.

For next Wednesday the menu is chicken enchilada casserole.

Eldred supervisors

The Eldred Township Board of Supervisors is slated to meet at 7 p.m. Aug. 18 at the township municipal building at 490 Kunkletown Road in Kunkletown.

Officers chosen

The officers for Operation: Touch of Home for the next service year will be: Tammy Gower, president; Maria Bentzoni, vice president; Elsa Henn, secretary; Connie Strohl, treasurer; Art Wahl, member at large. The Board of Directors are: Tammy Gower, Maria Bentzoni, Elsa Henn, Joe Henn, Connie Strohl, Melinda De Jesus, DJ De Jesus.

The group will next be busy and involved at the Great Pocono Raceway Air Show being held Aug. 21 and 22.

Free meals

PVEN Kids’ Summer Meals Program continue at the Western Pocono Community Library every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. through Aug. 20

This program is open to all children under 18 (or if developmentally disabled, under 21). No registration or proof of residency is required.

Meals are prepackaged in Grab-n-Go bags with meals for two days: two breakfasts and two lunches.

Habitat fundraiser

Monroe County Habitat for Humanity will once again hold its annual golf outing, most significant fundraiser, on Sept. 24, at Great Bear Golf Club in East Stroudsburg.

Reservations are due by Sept. 17, and online registration is available at www.HabitatMC.org/Golf-2021.
