Kitchen fire spreads quickly to gut Aquashicola home

An Aquashicola home was ravaged by fire Wednesday evening.

Aquashicola Volunteer Fire Company fire Chief Billy George said firefighters were dispatched at 6:20 p.m. to 3885 Forest Inn Road.

“It was pretty much fully involved,” George said. “It started in the kitchen and had already extended to the other rooms and the outside.”

George said fire companies from multiple counties were called in for manpower and water supply.

He said there were no injuries, as two occupants who were home at the time were able to escape.

George said the home was gutted.

He said the cause of the fire is unknown and remains under investigation.

George said the fire was under control around 9 p.m.

“I think the guys did a really good knockdown,” he said. “The fire extended into the attic; it was hard to get to some of the areas to put the fire out, it just kind of kept burning.”

George said firefighters were on scene for about six hours.

“It just took long to take care of the hot spots so then don’t rekindle, then the cleanup,” he said. “It was just a stubborn fire.”

George said also assisting at the scene were the Bowmanstown Fire Department, Franklin Township Fire Department, Lehighton Fire Department, Parryville Fire Department, Palmerton Fire Department, Trachsville Fire Department, Polk Township Fire Department, Diamond Fire Company in Walnutport, Lehigh Township Fire Department, and Palmerton Ambulance. The American Red Cross was also on scene to assist the family.

“It was a tough assignment, the end of a driveway; it was just a tough place to get to,” he said. “I think they did a really good job, worked hard at it, the fact that it’s still standing.”
