Park concert

This week’s Sunday in the Park Concert will be the Marine Band of Allentown from 6:30-8 p.m. in the borough park bandstand. Please note the August time change. The concert is sponsored by Carbon County Community Foundation. Bring a lawn chair or blanket and enjoy the concert. The Bandstand Committee reserves the right to cancel a concert in case of inclement weather.

Next week, Aug. 8 the concert will be by the Pennsylvania Villagers.

Living Hope Lighthouse Church

Living Hope Lighthouse Church, 705 Third St., Palmerton will hold Sunday worship service at 10 a.m. Operation Bookbag school supply collection goes through Aug. 15. You can help children in need for this upcoming school year. A table is set up for you to put your donations.

Jerusalem Lutheran Church

The Jerusalem Evangelical Lutheran Church, Trachsville, annual Sunday School Picnic will be held Aug. 7. The picnic will start at noon. Services with Guest speaker Roger Borger will be at 2 p.m. Afternoon activities include a Kiddie cake walk and fish pond at 3 p.m. Evening activities include a cake walk for all ages at 6:30 p.m. followed by a raffle drawing. Live music by Last One Standing will begin at 4 p.m. Come enjoy great food and fellowship.

Breakfast

Parryville Volunteer Fire Co. #2 will serve breakfast on Sunday from 8-11:30 a.m. Dine in or take out is available. Phone ahead orders to 610-852-2350 or 484-347-3928.

Platter choices include pancakes, French toast, eggs any style, SOS, Fire House Mess, western omelet, ham & cheese omelet. Choices of meats are ham, sausage, scrapple, or bacon. Includes home fries, juice, and coffee. They have large and small platters.

Movie in the Park

Join the Concourse Club for a free summer movie. The Movie “Ratatouille” will be shown in the Palmerton Borough Park on Aug. 4 at 8:30 p.m. Bring along a blanket or chairs, as well as snacks and drinks to enjoy. All park rules apply.

JUCC picnic

Jerusalem United Church of Christ, 545 Church Drive, Trachsville, will hold its annual Community Picnic in the church grove on Aug. 14 from noon to 9 p.m. At noon the food stands will be open and ready for lunch. At 1 p.m. will be free kids games & a free Kiddie cake walk. Afternoon activities also include a Corn Hole Tournament and music by the Main Street Cruisers at 3 and 5 p.m. Raffle Tickets will also be on sale. At 6:30 p.m. will be Trachsville’s Legendary cake walk for all ages. The Mainstreet Cruisers will play again at 7:30 p.m. The Raffle drawing will be at 9 p.m. Bring your lawn chairs. The rain date will be Aug. 15.

Palmerton Historical Society

The Palmerton Historical Society will be holding its monthly program on Aug. 2 at 6:30 p.m. in the Knight’s Gallery of the Palmerton Library. Title for the presentation is “Human Powered Toys including the Slinky,” Pennsylvania’s official toy that is manufactured in Hollidaysburg. The presenter will be Bob Swaim. Free admission. Please note time and place.

Also, at this meeting, they will be taking names of those planning to attend their annual picnic on Aug. 9 at 5 p.m. The picnic will take place at Bert Holczman’s Farm.

August at the Library

The library and basement book sale are open. No appointment necessary. The are still offering curbside service for those who call and request it. Masks are optional in the library. If you are interested in reserving the conference room or gallery room for a meeting or workshop please call 610-826-3424.

The summer reading program is coming to an end. Activity sheets are due back at the library by Aug. 7. Make sure to include your contact information to be included in the prize drawing.

It’s tote bag time. The $5 tote bag sale begins Aug. 9. Purchase a reusable Palmerton Area Library tote bag and fill it with books, movies, and puzzles from the basement sale. Bags can be purchased for later use as long as the receipt is attached to the bag. The sale will continue while bags are still available.

Lions Club bingo

The Palmerton Lions Club hosts bingo every Friday night at the Palmerton Sokol Hall, 425 Lehigh Ave., Palmerton. Doors open at 4 p.m. and games start at 6 p.m. Various packages and games are available. Food is also available for purchase.

JUCC

Jerusalem United Church of Christ, 545 Church Drive, Trachsville continues to hold Sunday Worship service in the church grove at 9 a.m. Beginning Sunday, Holy Communion elements will be provided by the church. They are now having refreshments at the service. A sign-up sheet is in Ryman Hall if you would like to sign up to supply a baked item or snack.

Summer Fest

Summer Fest will be held Saturday from 5-10 p.m. at the Bowmanstown Rod & Gun Club, 525 Club Road, Palmerton. Jesse Wade will be playing from 6-9 p.m. Grumpy’s BBQ will be serving food as well as Parryville Fire Company’s funnel cake and fried Oreos. There will be tickets available to win some great prizes as well as a 50/50 drawing. Adult and kid friendly beverages will be available for purchase. Free admission.
