Carbon County court

Six defendants in pending driving under the influence cases entered guilty pleas in Carbon County court on Friday. Two others who already entered pleas were sentenced.

President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II accepted pleas from the following:

Two counts

Jacquelyn Marie Cudzil, 39, of Slatington, pleaded guilty to two counts of DUI in incidents that occurred hours apart.

She was arrested on Jan. 23 by state police at Lehighton, first along Lehigh Drive in East Penn Township; and the second time along South 4th St., in Lehighton. In the first stop she had a 0.17 BAC; and in the second a 0.20 BAC.

She told the court her actions were the result of her having an emotional time. The events happened on the date of her husband’s untimely death.

On the first count, Nanovic placed her on probation for six months and ordered she pay a fine of $300. On the second count, she was sentenced to serve five days to six months in jail, pay a fine of $300 and license suspended for a year. The terms run consecutively. She was given credit for 22 days spent in a inpatient rehabilitation program and paroled on the second count.

Other cases

Tyler John Fisher, 24, of Weatherly, pleaded to two counts of DUI for incidents on Feb. 24 and March 13, both filed by Weatherly police. In the first case he was stopped along Church Street; and in the second case along Main Street. Blood tests revealed a 0.34 BAC in the first case; and 0.26 BAC in the second.

The second stop involved a short chase before he stopped. A fleeing and eluding count was dropped in a plea deal with the DA’s office.

Sentencing was deferred so he can apply for the house arrest program.

Debbie Marie Creyer, 49, of Bangor, was arrested on Jan. 14 by state police at Lehighton along Interchange Road in Franklin Township, for DUI of a controlled substance.

She was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, pay a fine of $1,000 and a one year license suspension.

She will begin the jail term at 10 a.m. on Aug. 4.

Douglas William Edwards, 56, of Lehighton, was arrested on Dec. 26, 2020, by state police at Lehighton along Route 443 in Mahoning Township, at the gas pumps of the Giant Market. A blood test revealed a 0.30 BAC.

He was placed on probation for six months and ordered to pay a fine of $300.

George Earl Lahr Jr., 54, of Lehighton, was arrested on March 2 by state police at Lehighton along Lizard Creek Road in East Penn Township after being involved in a one-vehicle crash. A test revealed a 0.26 BAC.

Sentencing was deferred so he can apply for the house arrest program.

Assaeugene Darnell Tabb, 41, of Allentown, was arrested on Dec. 7, 2020, by state police at Fern Ridge along Route 534 in Penn Forest Township, for DUI of a controlled substance.

Sentencing was deferred so he can obtain a comprehensive drug and alcohol evaluation.

Sentencings

Two defendants, who previously entered guilty pleas, were sentenced by Nanovic.

Nathan A. Eckhart, 37, of Albrightsville, was sentenced to serve five years in the Restrictive Conditions of Probation program (house arrest), with the first 30 days in jail followed by 60 days on home electronic monitoring. He was given credit for 41 days spent in rehab program and jail and paroled. He was also ordered to pay a fine of $1,500 and license suspended for 18 months. On a charge of possession of a controlled substance - heroin, he was placed on probation for 24 months, concurrent with the DUI charge. On a summary offense on not wearing a seat belt he was fined $10.

He was arrested on Jan. 6 by state police at Lehighton along Interchange Road in Towamensing Township, for DUI of a controlled substance.

Marcos Castellon, 26, of Hazleton, was sentenced to serve five years in the RCP program with the first 30 days in jail followed by 60 days on home electronic monitoring. He was fined $1,500, license suspended for 18 months and must supply a DNA sample.

He was arrested on Sept. 8, 2020, by Weatherly police along Main Street for DUI of a controlled substance.

He will begin serving the jail term at 9 p.m. on July 26 and serve it on consecutive two-day weekends on Sunday to Tuesday

Each defendant sentenced must also pay court costs of about $1,000, a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole and follow any recommendation of their drug and alcohol evaluation.
