Tamaqua arts center set for benefit concert

The community is coming together to perform a benefit concert Friday in Tamaqua.

The seventh annual Arts Center Big Benefit Concert will be held at the Tamaqua Community Arts Center at 7 p.m.

“It continues to grow every year. This will be our biggest crowd ever,” said Micah Gursky, executive director of the Tamaqua Area Community Partnership.

“The arts center is a place where people go to perform or do something that they never thought they could do. That’s what the arts center does every day.”

Entertainment will be provided by Lisa Scheller, Dr. Greg Dobash, Ron Feltenberger, Micah Gursky and members of the band Redz Vision.

“If 2020 taught us anything, it was how important the local community is and that is why I am so happy to be included in the Tamaqua Arts Center Big Benefit Concert,” Scheller said.

“The Tamaqua arts center provides the local community with an invaluable resource and outlet for so many who need it.”

Feltenberger, St. Luke’s Miners director of facilities, has been playing guitar since he was 8 years old. He’s excited to help put on a show for the Tamaqua area once again.

“For me, this is one a way to give back to the community where I’m employed. This is very much my second home and I’ve been here since 2013 at St. Luke’s Miners,” Feltenberger said. “I’ve really gotten to be fond of the community, how special it is - how a little community like Tamaqua has an arts center and it’s flourishing. Being able to help that it satisfies a feel-good instinct in a person, as well as let’s me live out the rock star fantasy once a year.”

Feltenberger said the group will play more of a “greatest hits” type of playlist, featuring some of the best artists they’ve played at previous benefits over the past seven years.

“We really want to thank the dedicated audience that comes every year, they’re a huge reason why this is a success,” Feltenberger added.

The event will be held adjacent to the arts center under a tent. Gursky said “island dress” is strongly encouraged. Tickets include food and beverage.
