46th annual Walnutport carnival starts Tuesday

A favorite summertime attraction is back in Walnutport and ready to reclaim its glory.

After a one-year hiatus due to the pandemic, the annual 2021 Walnutport Playground Association Carnival is set to make its return.

The 46th annual event will be held from 6 to 11 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday at the playground on Lincoln Avenue and supports the playground association’s girls and boys softball and baseball programs.

Robert Treskot, chairman of the carnival who helps run the event alongside Gale Husack, assistant chairperson, and Brian Filchner, president of the WPA, said he believes people are likely to pack this year’s event.

“I hope it’s going to be a real good turnout, and that people stick around,” Treskot said.

“People are anxious to get out of the house.”

There will be food vendors on hand, such as Leon’s French Fries, along with Doggy Style, which will have a food truck selling hot dogs.

Entertainment is another huge hit, and this year’s lineup will feature performances by Steel Creek on Tuesday; The Rehrig Brothers Band on Wednesday; The Groove on Thursday; The Large Flowerheads on Friday; and The Hydraulic Line Band on Saturday.

Rides are available each night from Nonweiler Amusements Midway Inc., with a ride special Wednesday and Saturday.

The always popular fireworks show will be presented by Celebration Fireworks at 9:30 p.m. Friday.

For even more fun, the Northern Lehigh softball team will have a dunking booth at the carnival.

Additionally, there will be a big basket social where people can buy tickets and win different baskets, for which Treskot said they are looking for donations.

Treskot, who became treasurer of the event in 1986, touted the important role volunteers play to make the event what it is.

“We just need a lot of help to run the carnival,” he said.

“We want to thank all the people who volunteer to help at the carnival.”
