Carbon plans for kiosk maintenance
Carbon County commissioners are planning ahead so that the new parking kiosks remain in good working order.
The board approved a three-year contract with Butts Ticket Company of Cochranville for preventive maintenance and parts of the 15 kiosks the county will have.
Terms of the contract include a cost of $11,790, or $65.50 per machine per month for the first year; and $15,840 or $88 per machine per month for the second and third years.
Commissioner Chris Lukasevich said the county has 12 operational kiosks and will add three more upon the completion of the connector trail that is under construction.
He said the county reached out to Jim Thorpe Borough to see if it could partner together on a service agreement on the of 22 kiosks in the Jim Thorpe area. Jim Thorpe controls seven parking kiosks.
Lukasevich said that Jim Thorpe preferred to stick with its current agreement.
If the county and borough would have partnered together, Lukasevich said the county would have had an annual savings of just under $2,000.
The parking kiosks in the county-owned lots went into operation in January after years of preparations.
The county purchased the 15 kiosks for the lot and metered areas on Lehigh Avenue and Susquehanna Street from Butts Ticket Company in August 2019 at a cost of $175,550, which was taken out of the parking fund.
The county also purchased three CitePro handheld enforcement devices from United Public Safety of Fort Washington at a cost of $22,383.64 for the first year and $11,483.64 in years two and three. These devices will be used to read license plates and issue parking tickets.
The kiosks are monitored from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
