Northern Lehigh names new assistant middle school/high school principal

A man who previously taught in the district has now been chosen to fill an administrative position in the Northern Lehigh School District.

The school board on an 8-0 vote Monday appointed Michael Strohl as middle school/high school assistant principal, at a salary of $90,000, effective July 1, or upon release from his current employer.

Superintendent Matthew J. Link welcomed Strohl on board.

Board President Gary Fedorcha told Strohl it was nice to see him return to the district.

“We welcome you to the district back again,” Fedorcha said. “Nice to have you back.”

Strohl, currently an instructor in the Easton Area School District, thanked everyone for the opportunity.

“I can’t wait, and I’m eager to serve Northern Lehigh School District once again,” Strohl said.

“He was selected for the position due to his strong desire to support students to be fully engaged in their education and meaningful contributors to the Northern Lehigh community and beyond,” Link said after the meeting. “He has a desire to partner with community and regional business and service agencies to develop mentoring opportunities for our students.”

Link noted Strohl has ties to the district.

“This transition is a homecoming for Mr. Strohl, as he is a graduate of Northern Lehigh High School, and has previously taught for Northern Lehigh,” he said. “We are excited to have him rejoin our team.”

Strohl will replace David Hauser, who last month was appointed by the board as the new principal at Northern Lehigh Middle School principal at a salary of $100,000, effective July 1.

Hauser will succeed current middle school Principal Jill Chamberlain, who will retire from the district July 30 after nearly 15 years of service.

Chamberlain was hired in August 2006 after she served as assistant principal at Pleasant Valley Middle School. In August 2008, she was promoted to principal of Northern Lehigh Middle School.

Before her appointment, Chamberlain served as middle school/high school transition assistant principal.

Hauser, who was hired in July 2019 as secondary assistant principal, at a salary of $88,000, prorated, is a 2001 graduate of the district.

He replaced former Assistant High School Principal Tanya Simms after the board in June 2019 accepted her resignation, effective Aug. 16 of that year.

Simms was appointed as high school assistant principal in May 2013 at a salary of $80,000, effective Aug. 1 of that year. She began employment with the district in August 2004 as a health and physical education teacher.

Simms resigned to pursue endeavors outside of public education.

Hauser previously served as assistant principal at Lehighton Area High School, a position he had held for nearly two years, and was hired there at a salary of $72,000 to replace Jennifer Evans, who was hired in July 2017 as Lehighton Area Middle School principal. Before that, he was an English teacher at the high school.

Director Robin Distler was absent from the meeting.
