June 14, 1980 - Tamaqua’s Steve Opet captures co-MVP honors at the Schuylkill County Charity Bowl football all-star game as his North squad gains a 16-0 victory over the South. Opet picks up a team-leading 64 yards rushing and also adds 27 yards receiving. Marian’s Pete Bubel boots a 26-yard field goal to open the scoring in the first quarter and later kicks an extra point. The Colts’ Pete Stanakis (fumble recovery) and Chuck Tinninis (interception) come up with turnovers on defense, as does Panther Valley’s Ed Shubeck (interception). Shubeck and Tamaqua’s Joe Seigenfuss both contribute punts over 40 yards.
