Man with warrants flees police following traffic stop

A Northampton County man has been charged with fleeing police following a traffic stop in Lehighton.

According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by patrolman Bruce Broyles of the Lehighton Borough Police Department in the case against Jarrad Marsh:

At 10:40 p.m. June 5, Broyles initiated a traffic stop in the parking lot of the Sunoco gas station along Route 443 on a silver Nissan Rogue being operated eastbound.

The driver, Marsh, 31, of Bath, asked why he was being stopped.

Marsh did not have his license, and provided the name of Jarrad Cavello.

Marsh told Broyles he is not the vehicle owner.

Broyles again asked Marsh for the spelling of his name, as well as his date of birth.

Broyles told him that no records were returned, which Marsh said was impossible as his father is the former chief of police of Moore Township.

When Broyles returned to his car to verify the correct spelling was entered into the computer, Marsh got out of the car and ran through the Sunoco parking lot, and across Route 443.

Broyles was able to take Marsh into custody, where he eventually provided his real name with the same date of birth.

Marsh had a DUI suspended license out of Pennsylvania, and had two outstanding warrants.

Marsh told Broyles that he initially provided his father’s last name because he didn’t want to go to jail from his warrants.

Marsh faces charges of flight to avoid apprehension, trail or punishment; false identification to law enforcement officer; driving while operating privilege is suspended or revoked; and operation following suspension of registration.

He is currently incarcerated in the Carbon County Correctional Facility in lieu of $5,000 monetary bail, and scheduled to have a preliminary hearing June 30 before District Judge Eric M. Schrantz of Jim Thorpe.
