East Penn discusses road work, new hires

The East Penn Board of Supervisors held their monthly meeting on June 7 at the community center regarding road work and new hires.

The meeting began with a brief announcement made by Chairman William Schwab, noting that the East Penn recycling event is to be held Oct. 16 from 9 a.m. to noon.

Roadmaster Brandon Bradford received authorization from the board to pave the road around the community center, fire company and post office as well as put in new concrete blocks. This is following recent road repairs on Sand Quarry Road, Municipal Road and Friendship Road.

Supervisors decided against paying $299 toward a Carbon Chamber & Economic Development membership, deciding that it would not be beneficial for the township.

The board also made the decision to hire new Assistant Treasurer Victoria Taschler upon receiving four applications for the open position. Out of all of the applicants, she was the only one not overqualified or underqualified, making her a fitting candidate for the position.

Additionally, resident Bernard Hosier was appointed to a five-year term on the township’s recreation board.

The township office will be closed June 14 and June 15 and the next board meeting will be held July 6.
