Resident questions council about technology, public comment

A Bowmanstown man addressed borough council on Tuesday with concerns about the use of technology, as well as public comment rules.

Fred Kleintop, from Meadowcrest Manor, told council that he recently listened to the minutes from a previous borough council meeting.

“Terrible technology,” Kleintop said.

Mayor Zach Snyder said he previously suggested the borough look to livestream its meetings.

Council President William Ravert said borough code states they only have to have minutes of meetings.

Councilwoman Kara Scott said she understood the concern.

“I agree that we need to have more transparency,” Scott said. “I think (the meetings) should be (livestreamed) on our website.”

In an unrelated matter, Kleintop asked that per taxpayers’ rights, whether they can be shut out of the public comment portion of a council meeting.

Ravert said the way council’s meetings are run gives residents the opportunity to comment at the beginning of the meeting.

“The policy is visitors will be given 20 minutes to express their concerns,” he said.

Snyder told Kleintop that he, as well as any borough residents, can attend committee meetings as well.
