Nesquehoning borough council

Nesquehoning Borough Council discussed or acted on the following items during its monthly meeting last week.

• Resident Cory Dzienis, owner of A to Z Construction, asked about the new large vehicle parking amendment. Dzienis attended council’s May meeting to ask where he could park his construction vehicles, so he wouldn’t be in violation of the ordinance.

Council said they did not have a location for him to park. He asked if the ordinance would be enforced for everyone and not just him. A complaint was filed regarding him parking his vehicles in front of a vacant home and one where the woman doesn’t own a car.

• Solicitor Robert Yurchak reported that the resident who has hung a flag that includes an expletive has declined to remove the flag. Since it is part of the first amendment, there is nothing that can be done.

• Adopted an amendment to the nonuniform pension plan ordinance.

• Approved a paper road deed for Almond Street, from East Railroad to High Street.

• Approved an agreement of sale for an empty lot owned by the borough at 121 E. Columbus Ave., to Denise Garcia.

• Denied an appeal by the owners of a residence along East Railroad Street that revokes their rental license for six months following a drug bust and other drug related activity at the home by the renter in January. The owners appealed council’s March decision for the revocation of the rental license.

• Approved the extension of the probationary period of Detective Richard Neikam for one month to allow for more time to determine if the move will remain permanent after a cost savings analysis is completed.

• Approved the resignation of part-time officer Kundan Dav.

• Paid Tamaqua Transfer following issues council was having regarding where recycling was going to get processed. The company will provide monthly detailed tonnage reports for recyclables collected and where it is sent to after pickup.

• Council is looking into the possibility of holding a community yard sale. Further details have not yet been announced.

• Borough offices are now reopen to the public, but masks are still required for the time being.
