State Police at Fern Ridge - thefts

State police at Fern Ridge reported on the following theft investigations:

• On May 7 police received a report that a large amount of cash was stolen from a car. An Infiniti was towed to Jimmy’s Towing, located along Route 115, in Blakeslee, Tunkhannock Township, Monroe County, on May 6 about 10 p.m. The vehicle was left unlocked.

At 11:48 p.m. the victim, a 31-year-old man from Randolph, Massachusetts, came to pickup the vehicle. He reported that two Louis Vuitton bags, located inside the vehicle, were removed. One bag contained $4,000 in cash and the second $1,740 in cash. The second victim was listed as a 31-year-old man from Warwick, Rhode Island. The investigation is continuing.

• Troopers are investigating a bank check scam involving a 41-year-old woman from Brodheadsville and the Luzerne Bank, in Sugarloaf, Luzerne County. Troopers said someone attempted to purchase Pampered Chef merchandise using a fraudulent check in an amount less than $500. The bank check was in the amount of $1,999. The person requested the check be deposited and the remaining balance be initially sent via Zelle, PayPal or Venmo. It was confirmed by the bank that the cashier’s check was fraudulent. Trooper said this is a common fake check scam. The investigation is continuing.

• On May 14 at 10:15 p.m. troopers noticed a man outside the Salem United Church of Christ parish, located at 117 Corner Road, Polk Township, Monroe County, with a flashlight. Further investigation revealed that Richard Joseph Frantz, 52, of Kunkletown, the man removed two bags of second hand clothing from the donation bin.

Frantz was charged with theft, receiving stolen property and possession of drug paraphernalia.

• On March 13 troopers arrived at Cider Mill Road, in Jackson Township, Monroe County, for a report of a theft of medical marijuana. While on scene, Jonathan Christopher Moyer, 26, of Pocono Lake, was observed driving a 2010 Toyota Camry without permission from the owner. Moyer had multiple warrants for his arrest. The vehicle was located traveling northbound on Route 115 near Route 940. A vehicle stop was initiated and Moyer taken into custody.

During the search of the vehicle Moyer was in possession of all reported medical marijuana, a rifle and suicide notes. Moyer was also found to be under the influence of controlled substances. Moyer refused any testing.

He was transported to the county prison in Snydersville on the outstanding warrants. Moyer was charged with a total of 11 counts including theft, receiving stolen property, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, DUI of a controlled substance, drug counts and motor vehicle code violations.
