Monroe grant targets unlawful gambling

Monroe County is getting a grant to help target unlawful gambling.

The county commissioners this week approved a one-year Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board Local Law Enforcement Grant for $197,236 to be used to identify, enforce and prosecute activities involving unlawful gambling.

“Of all the good things and bad things that happen in Monroe County, none of us were really aware of the fact that illegal gambling was near the top of our list. This is a one-year grant to enforce and prosecute activities involved in unlawful gambling, and the grant runs out after a year,” said Commissioner John Moyer said.

In other business, the county approved the contracts for the bids opened earlier this month for the PNC demolition project. The project will make way for the courthouse expansion.

Contracts are: Brdaric Excavation, $32,500; Lycoming Supply, $52,426; E.F. Possinger & Sons, $105,916;

Kobalt Construction, $167,600; Northeast Site Contractors, $287,021

Changes were made to the Wind Gap Electric and Otis Elevator contracts.
