No contest for Tamaqua school board
There was no race for a nomination for a four-year term on the Tamaqua Area School Board on Tuesday.
There are four seats up for election with four candidates cross-filing.
The order of finish follows:
Democratic: Nancy J. Jones, 520; Mark D. Rother, 438; Bryan W. Miller, 425; and Nicholas E. Boyle, 372. On the Republican side: Miller, 1,636; Jones, 1,621; Boyle, 1,576; and Rother, 1,516.
Mahanoy Area:
In the Mahanoy Area School District there are four 4-year seats up for election with six candidates cross-filing. Voters decided the race Tuesday as four of the candidates won both nominations and are virtually assured of election in November.
On the Democratic side Karen E. Yedsena got 517 votes; John Honus, 464; Steven Gnall, 437; Jim Mitchell, 350; Mary Fran Zack, 271; and Larry Levy 140. On the GOP side the order of finish was Yedsena, 611; Honus, 595; Gnall, 578; Mitchell, 494; Zack, 263; and Levy, 232.
Yedsena, Honus, Gnall and Mitchell are the winners.
Blue Mountain:
In the Blue Mountain School District four seats for four-year terms are up for election. There are only four candidates with one cross-filing.
Marie Riegel cross-filed and will benefit from getting all votes cast for both Democrats and Republicans in the fall. She got 784 votes Democratic votes. Trish Kelly got 807 to lead the Democratic side.
On the GOP side Roy Heim and Anne Usuka did not cross-file. The order of finish on the GOP side was Heim, 2,018; Usuka, 1,605; and Riegel, 1,557.
All four names will be on the November ballot.
Hazleton:
There was no shortage of candidates for four seats, four-year term, on the Hazleton Area School District board of education.
Four candidates out of the nine managed to get both nominations Tuesday and appear headed to victory in the fall.
On the Democratic side the order of finish was: Linda De Cosmo, 197; Ed Shemansky, 191; Alexander Chrison Van Hoekelen, 161; Anthony Ryba, 160; Gerald L. Feissner, 147; Ive Eufracio-Childs, 135; Yesenia Rodriguez, 102; Amilear S. Arroyo, 98; and Marilyn Calderon, 95.
The order of finish on the GOP side was: Shemansky, 549; De Cosmo, 524; Ryba, 516; Van Hoekelen, 406; Feissner, 404; Eufracio-Childs, 198; and Rodriguez, 128. Arroyo and Calderon did not file on the GOP side.
The top four finishers with both nods are Shemansky, De Cosmo, Van Hoekelen and Ryba.
