Local Roundup: Results from May 17

Weatherly’s baseball team, and Northern Lehigh’s softball squad rolled to victories on Monday.

In other action, three area Connie Mack teams opened their seasons with wins.

SCHOLASTIC BASEBALL

Mahanoy Area-Weatherly

Trevor Lowman had four hits and knocked in three runs to help Weatherly pull away from Mahanoy Area for a 14-4 Schuylkill League victory.

The Wreckers broke a 2-2 tie with four runs in the third inning, with two of the tallies scoring on a Jack James single. They tacked on three more runs in each of the fourth and fifth frames to seal the win.

Antonio Colecio added a pair of hits, three RBIs and scored three times. Ben Ramirez and Yasin Zuberi both chipped in with a hit and two runs scored.

Zuberi also earned the victory, allowing three hits and striking out three in 4 1/3 innings.

Weatherly improved to 2-15 overall, and 1-12 in the league.

Northern Lehigh used a seven-run fourth inning to finish off Executive Education Academy and claim an 11-0 nonleague contest.

Bree Hess had two hits, two runs and two RBIs for the Bulldogs, while Haylie Fenstermaker added a hit, two runs and several RBIs.

The winners, who finished regular season play with a 7-13 record, also received a hit and two runs from Jordan Hemingway. Arabella Heintzelman chipped in with a hit and two RBIs.

Kendall Heiney allowed just three hits and struck out six to earn the victory.

Panther Valley-Catasauqua

Catasauqua scored 11 first-inning runs and cruised to a 15-1 nonleague victory over Panther Valley.

Sophia Becker had two hits and scored a pair of runs for the Rough Riders, while Hailey Deschaine added a triple, three runs and three RBIs.

Delaney Troxell allowed just one hit and struck out eight to gain the win.

The Panthers (1-19) received a hit and an RBI from E. Rex.

Chase Moyer and Wesley George both had big offensive days to help Northern Valley open its season with a 15-5 victory over East Stroudsburg.

Moyer had three hits, two runs and three RBIs for the Chargers (1-0), while George added two hits, four runs and knocked in two.

Zach Russo contributed a hit and three RBIs to the winning cause.

Moyer also gained the pitching win, striking out 10 in five innings.

Wilson-Pamerton

Nate Steinmetz led a potent Palmerton offense and the Blue Bombers rolled to a 13-6 victory over Wilson.

Steinmetz collected four hits, one of them a double. He also scored three runs and knocked in three.

Trey Sterling added two hits and four RBIs, while winning pitcher Chase Reph contributed a pair of hits and two runs scored.

The Blue Bombers, who finished with 13 hits in the contest, also received a hit, two runs and two RBIs from Ty Sander, and a hit and two RBIs from Trevor Stroup.

Salisbury-Franklin Twp.

Franklin Township opened its season on a winning note, cruising to a 10-2 victory over Salisbury.

Aiden Rarick led the way for Franklin with four hits and two runs scored, while Ian Rarick contributed two hits and four RBIs.

Carter Birnbaum turned in a solid pitching effort, allowing just six hits while striking out six.

Hayden Dyer also chipped in with a hit and two RBIs.
