State police at Frackville report on crashes

State police at Frackville reported on the following crashes investigated by troopers:

• A one-vehicle crash was reported at 6:32 a.m. on May 1 along Valley Road in Walker Township. Troopers said Christopher A. Baker, 56, of Tamaqua, was driving a 2019 Nissan Frontier eastbound when he failed to negotiate a left curve in the road. His vehicle traveled down a 70-foot embankment before striking several downed trees with the undercarriage of the vehicle.

Troopers said Baker ran from the scene when the vehicle got stuck in a swamp. He was not injured. He was cited for the crash.

• A two-vehicle crash was reported on May 1 at 9:08 a.m. along Route 309 (Claremont Avenue), in Rush Township. Troopers said Jesus Garcia Almaras, 39, of Hazleton, was southbound in a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado truck and stopped for traffic. Samantha E. Postupack, 25, of Tamaqua, was southbound in a 2005 Volvo 540 and did not see the vehicle stopped ahead of her. She rear-ended the Silverado.

No one was injured.

Postupack was cited for following too closely.

• A two-vehicle crash was reported at 12:41 p.m. on May 2 along South Street in Rush Township, in the parking lot of the farmers’ market. Troopers said a 2020 Nissan Rogue was legally parked and unoccupied in the lot. The owner of a 2010 Toyota Corolla, Zoe E. Downs, 20, of Weatherly, returned to her vehicle and discovered the Toyota had struck the front of the Nissan while parking. Downs left the scene leaving the Toyota parked against the Nissan.

Downs was cited for careless driving.

• A crash was reported at 5:48 a.m. on May 6 along Route 309 (The Mile Hill), in Kline Township, Schuylkill County.

Troopers said Stacy A. Fortin, 42, of Lansford, was driving a 2018 Hyundai Elantra northbound when a deer entered the road on front of her. She was unable to avoid the animal and struck it with the front end of the vehicle.

Fortin suffered a suspected minor injury and was taken to St. Luke’s Miners Hospital-Coaldale, by McAdoo ambulance. The Elantra was towed.
