May 8, 2002 - Lehighton’s Katie Grant captures first place in the triple jump during the second day of the Mountain Valley Conference track and field championships. Grant registers a mark of 34-10 1/4 to claim gold. The Indians’ Dave Frehulfer collects three second-place finishes in the 100, 200 and 400 in times of 10.9, 22.7 and 50.1. Grant and four other area athletes turn in third-place performances. Grant is third in the 100, while Lehighton’s Andrea Wolfe (discus) and Chris Steigerwalt (110 hurdles) also reach the medal stand. Other thirds come from Pleasant Valley’s Jeremy Burger (shot put) and Jillian Metzger (100 hurdles).
