May 6, 1953 - Palmerton clinches the Lehigh Valley League track championship with a 70 2/3-24 1/3 victory over Northampton. Art George wins both the broad jump and discus for the Blue Bombers, who sweep four different events (mile, shot put, discus, high jump). The winners, coached by Bill Wilhelm, also receive firsts from Bob Kolnik (220), Ron Christman (440), Paul Sheckler (880), Trygve Myhren (mile), Dick Werkheiser (shot put) and George Perich (high jump). The title is the second for Palmerton in the league’s six-year history.
