Carbon County court — DUI

A total of six defendants who previously entered guilty pleas to driving under the influence and related charges were sentenced recently in Carbon County court.

President Judge Roger N. Nanovic presided.

Randise Deonshay Pryor, 40, of New York City, was sentenced to serve 90 days to five years in jail, pay a fine of $1,500 and his license was suspended for 18 months on a DUI of a controlled substance charge. On a possession of drug paraphernalia charge he was placed on probation for a year, concurrent to the DUI count.

He was arrested on July 14, 2016, by state police at Fern Ridge along Interstate 80 in Kidder Township.

Pryor was sentenced via video conference from the Lackawanna County prison, where he is serving another sentence. Nanovic ruled the sentence run concurrent with Lackawanna County.

Belal Majdi Alsharif, 29, of Philadelphia, was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, pay a fine of $1,000 and license suspended for a year on a DUI of a controlled substance charge.

He was arrested on June 24, 2019, by state police at Pocono following a traffic stop along the turnpike in Kidder Township.

He will begin serving the sentence on April 30 at 9 a.m.

Hien Van Nguyen, 32, of Whitehall, was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, pay a fine of $1,000 and license suspended for a year on a DUI of a controlled substance charge. On a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia he was placed on probation for six months, consecutive to the DUI charge.

He was arrested on March 15, 2020, by state police at Lehighton along Route 209 in Lehighton.

He will begin serving the jail term at 9 a.m. on May 2.

Melissa Ann Romeo, 42, of Pocono Summit, was sentenced to serve 30 days to six months in prison, pay a fine of $750 and one-year license suspension.

She was arrested on Aug. 17, 2019, by state police at Fern Ridge along Route 903 in Penn Forest Township. A test revealed a 0.08 BAC.

She began the jail term immediately.

Sara Hernandez, 33, of Coopersburg, Lehigh County, was placed on probation for six months and ordered to pay a fine of $300 for a first offense.

She was arrested on July 1, 2019, by Lehighton police along Bridge Street. A test revealed a 0.18 BAC.

Taylor James Fehr, 25, of Bethlehem, was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, pay a fine of $1,000 and license suspended for a year on a DUI of a controlled substance charge.

He was arrested on Dec. 9, 2015, along Delaware Avenue in Palmerton by state police at Lehighton.

He will begin the jail term at 9 a.m. on April 30.

Each defendant must also pay court costs of about $1,000, a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole/probation and follow any recommendation of their drug and alcohol evaluation.
