Palmerton man given state prison term for trespass, other charges

A Palmerton man was sentenced to a state prison term on Thursday after pleading guilty to a criminal trespass charge.

Robert Werner, 39, pleaded to the count before Judge Joseph J. Matika for an incident on Aug. 23, 2020, in Palmerton.

On Tuesday Werner, who entered his plea via video conference from the county prison, pleaded to a criminal mischief charge for an Aug. 25, 2020, incident in Mahoning Township. Judge Steven R. Serfass accepted that plea.

Matika sentenced Werner to serve six to 24 months in a state correctional institution on each count with the terms running concurrently. He was also ordered to make total restitution of $551.61, render 50 hours of community service when paroled, get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment, supply a DNA sample, pay court costs of about $1,000 and have no contact with the victim in the trespass case.

It was noted Werner was on parole from a state sentence at the time of the arrests and is facing a state parole revocation hearing.
