Penn State Extension offers webinars

‘Dining with Diabetes’

People who want to learn how to better manage diabetes now can take a webinar offered by Penn State Extension.

“Dining with Diabetes” is a diabetes education program taught by extension educators across Pennsylvania. It is geared toward anyone who has Type 2 diabetes, prediabetes, has a family member with Type 2 diabetes, or is at risk for developing diabetes.

The webinars will be held from noon to 1:15 p.m. on May 14, 21 and 28 and June 4. A follow-up will be held on Aug. 6.

The program for adults with Type 2 diabetes or prediabetes and their families. This webinar will increase your knowledge of healthy food choices and diabetes management. The classes offer healthy meal planning tips, food demonstrations, class discussions, and guidance on being active.

Consecutive classes are held with a three-month follow-up.

Each class offers food demonstration videos, physical activity suggestions, and discussions regarding important information to help you manage your diabetes.

This program is part of a research study and participants will be asked to complete study-related materials, should they choose to participate in the study. Participation in the study is not required to attend the class.

Scholarships and financial aid funds may be available to a qualified number of participants.

Adult Mental Health First Aid

Mental Health First Aid teaches you how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illness and substance use disorders.

This training gives you the skills you need to reach out and provide initial support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem and help connect them to the appropriate care.

With the growing need for services and resources to help those living with mental health conditions, as well as substance use and addiction, everyone can play an important role in helping those in crisis.

• A session takes place from 1-4 p.m. on May 3 and June 7.

Healthy Mediterranean meals

Join Penn State Extension for a tasty trip to the Mediterranean.

In this virtual cooking class, “Let’s Cook at Home: Mediterranean” webinar, you’ll create and enjoy an authentic Mediterranean meal that’s healthy and delicious.

“Let’s Cook at Home: Mediterranean” will take place from noon to 1 p.m. on April 16.

In this interactive webinar, you can cook along with Penn State Extension educators or just watch to get some meal ideas.

Prep instructions and videos will be sent out the weekend before the webinar.

Alzheimer’s and dementia

Penn State Extension offers webinars to help with Alzheimer’s and dementia.

Individuals who are interested in learning more about Alzheimer’s and dementia are encouraged to participate. These webinars include Understanding Alzheimer’s and Dementia offered at 9 a.m. on May 14, Healthy Living for Your Brain and Body at 6 p.m. on May 3, and Dementia Conversations: Driving, Doctor Visits, Legal and Financial Planning at 1 p.m. on April 19 and at noon on April 26.

The “Understanding Alzheimer’s and Dementia” webinar explores the relationship between Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, explains the risk factors and the general stages of the disease, and offers helpful Alzheimer’s Association resources.

The “Healthy Living for Your Brain and Body: Tips from the Latest Research” webinar is designed for individuals of any age who are interested in healthy living and aging well.

The “Dementia Conversations: Driving, Doctor Visits, Legal and Financial Planning” webinar will cover common decisions that are difficult to discuss with loved ones and tips that can assist in making those important conversations less stressful.
