Carbon suspends jail warden, 2 guards

The warden of the Carbon County Prison has been suspended, officials said.

Sheriff Anthony Harvilla, president of the county prison board, confirmed the suspension of Warden Timothy Fritz Tuesday morning. Fritz and two prison guards were suspended with pay, effective March 17.

He said he could not release details into what led to the suspension, saying it was a personnel matter.

Harvilla added that “a probe into the personnel matter” was being completed as soon as possible.

Fritz has served as warden since March 23, 2015.

Prior to that he served as the acting warden since Nov. 6, 2014, after then Warden Joseph Gross was terminated.

Fritz has been employed by Carbon County since Dec. 14, 1994, when he began as a corrections officer at the prison. Over the years he has worked in the capacity of sergeant, deputy warden and acting warden twice.
